A PE-based heart surgeon, who seems to be an avid cricket fan, has come under fire recently for allegedly watching his favourite game while performing an operation. The cricket crazy doctor was provisionally banned from performing heart surgery after an anaesthetist blew the whistle on this unusual operating technique. Urban legends relating to the shenanigans of theatre personnel while patients are under abound, but it always comes as quite a shock when such legends are revealed as truth. One hopes, for the doctor’s sake, that the surgery was a success. With medical negligence litigation being one of the fastest growing sectors in the legal sphere, antics like these will no doubt lead to some interesting court-room drama in years to come.
